Level 3 Outdoor First Aid Qualification

Accredited by ITC First, an Ofqual recognised awarding organisation, this course meets the institute for outdoor learning’s standards for outdoor first aid training. Participants will gain hands on skills in managing a wide range of first aid scenarios, including outdoor specific incidents, with the option to add a Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Qualification.

With practical, outdoor focused training, experienced tutors, and a supportive learning environment, this course equips learners with the confidence and competence to handle emergencies in diverse outdoor settings.


Course Overview
Throughout the course, we will cover topics including the following:

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Dealing with collapse (with and without breathing)
  • Choking
  • Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Major Illness
  • Torso and limb injuries
  • Environmental effects
  • Heat and cold injuries
  • How to use a first aid kit
  • Outdoor specific scenarios and outdoor incident management

The combined Outdoor and Paediatric course also covers planning for and dealing with first aid emergencies involving children and babies, including child and baby CPR and common childhood conditions / illnesses. Those requesting certification for the Paediatric course will also be assessed on those elements.


Course Structure and Requirements
The course will start at 9:00 each morning and will run through until approximately 18:00. Learners must attend for the full duration of both days to be certified, please bring appropriate photo ID.

Courses are predominantly practical with a significant amount of time spent outdoors, whatever the weather. Warm outdoor clothing is required as well as a willingness and ability to take a full and active part in practical scenarios. Assessment is conducted through continuous observation of each candidate’s performance, and qualifications remain valid for three years.


Learning Approach
Course delivery encompasses skill development, group collaboration, and scenario practice, supplemented by discussions, presentations and video resources. The aim is to foster a supportive and positive learning environment where participants feel at ease while honouring their skills.
